Chapter 3 - Power

The Hydro-electric power supply in Bushmills gave out a total of 90 horse power (hp). In dry weather the Hydro-electric power was not enough to work the tram, therefore there was another generating plant at Portrush. This first was powered by a steam engine and later on by diesel. Having this power supply at the opposite end of the line meant that the tram would not run out of power when a long way from Bushmills.

The three box-like figures on the wall are where the turbine used to be fixed.

I am standing where the water from the turbine used to come out. The water was fed into the turbine by going along the concrete pier (which now has a fence along it) and down through the turbine.
